The Garden Church is excited to host our annual MLK Teach-In this Sunday at 4pm. A tradition started by Pastor Emeritus Rev. Dr. Jonathan Mitchell in 2017, we have once again invited community speakers to share their reflections on Dr. King's Legacy and how it speaks to us today.
This Sunday's speakers are: Rev. Adam D. Stevenson and Rev. James I Jones, Jr.
Reverend Adam D. Stevenson is a dedicated pastor who has led the Warren Chapel CME Church since August 2014. A distinguished United States Navy veteran, who has worked professionally for the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as the Federal Bureau of Prison; his passion for ministry is evident in his commitment to teaching and preaching the gospel. Reverend Stevenson is devoted to transforming lives, shaping destinies, and building up people, leaving an indelible impact on both his congregation and the community at large.
Beyond the pulpit, he serves as a board member on the Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council and is an Advisory Board member of Harbor Connects, showcasing his commitment to community engagement and service. In his personal life, Rev. Stevenson is a loving husband to Shari and a devoted father to Paige, Anyiah, Samira, and Eryn. His holistic approach to life, blending spiritual leadership with active community involvement and family values, makes him a respected and influential figure in both religious and civic circles.
Reverend James I. Jones, Jr., also known as Rev. J.J., Founder of the Gangsters For Christ non-profit organization since December 30, 1991. Born in Pineville, Louisiana, reared in Los Angeles, California, Rev. J.J. attended 66th St. Elementary, LaSalle Elementary, Henry Clay Jr. High, Morningside High (Inglewood, CA) and Jordan High (Watts Community). He was a three-year scholar Athlete, Washington hHigh (track and cross country). After high school, Rev. JJ. studied for three years at California State University, Long Beach. He also has 15years employment service with the Los Angeles County USC Medical Center and 10 years with Wesco Medical Center. He believes in displaying an attiude of compassion and includvenss with those at-riisk. Rev, JJ alo serves as Presidentof South Bureau Ministerial Alliance whose goal is Doing the Will of God.
