Living through the rainiest winter in recent memory here in Southern California has lead to a lot more green in our garden beds and on the ground in the dirt lot we rent. There has been a lot more weed whacking than ever before, and the governor of the state has begun easing drought restrictions. It feels like a new day, and while we know this is part of the climate change process we feel hopeful.
This Sunday begins Holy Week, the week each year Christians remember the story of Jesus' final days, including his last supper with the disciples, his crucification, death and resurrection on Easter Sunday. This Holy Week will look different than year's past because the 1st Thursday art walk in downtown San Pedro coincides with Maundy Thursday. Instead of our traditional meal we will have gifted musicians performing Christian music for the community, and several stations sent up around the garden to engage in some of the practices of the day including foot washing, and prayer. On Good Friday we have a special prayer walk planned with the United Methodist Church including seven stops around the neighborhood where we will remember the 7 last words of Christ and pray for what's happening in our community. And it all begins with Palm Sunday on April 4th at our usual worship time of 4pm.
Come as you are, stay as you are able. All Are Welcome.
In Faith,
Rev. Amanda
