Ashes and Limits

Weather we like it or not, the world is full of limits. We have limits as humans, our planet has limits. The garden has limits. This week we've had a lot of rain and the garden soil can only absorb so much before we have standing water and puddles. This year due to rain, our annual Ash Wednesday service will take place indoors with our friends at St. Peter's Episodical church (1648 W. 9th St.). We will join them for their 12pm service and then head to the neighborhoods to share ashes with all who welcome them.

Sunday marks the beginning of the annual church season of Lent. This Lent season we are going to make a more concerted effort to get to know one another as a church community. This will look like an abbreviated sermon reflection from the pastors followed by small group discussions at our picnic tables weekly. This will be a chance to share stories of life and faith reflecting on the scripture themes of the day. This Sundays scripture reading is from the 4th chapter of the gospel of Matthew demonstrating Jesus' limits vs. God's limitless power.

We hope you can join us this week.

In Faith,

What We mean when We say All Are Welcome:

At The Garden Church we intentionally welcome all. We do this without requiring adherence to any religious belief or creed. We foster a climate of purposeful inclusion, an environment where all can feel safe, valued, cared for, and given an opportunity to form meaningful connections with the Divine and each other. We cherish the diversity of humanity, a diversity which includes differences in sex, age, race, ethnicity, and national origin, range of abilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, financial means, education, and political perspective.

We are also a member Congregation of the Pacific Coast Association of the Swedenborgian Church of North America
