We've had enough dry days in the garden that activities have picked up again. Feed and be Fed's Garden Lab is off and running with 4th graders from Taper Elementary School. This program joins the ones already running including 15th St. School, boys and Girl's club and Little Sprouts.
This past Sunday at church we were joined by members of Brianna Laural's family to plant a tree in her memory. It was a gift for our community to have time to remember her as many were not able to attend her funeral. Coming up: We are working towards kicking off our Saturday Open Garden time funded by a new grant from the New Church New Legacy Fund. The garden will be open on Saturdays 9am-11am beginning Saturday, March 7th.
During open garden time in addition to offering our urban sanctuary as respite and as an opportunity to get your hands in the dirt, we also plan to have offerings including art and a container gardening class on Saturday, March 21st.
Also on Saturday we are hosting (with Code Pink) a film titled "The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil." The film will include a guest speaker to provide context for the current situation in Cuba and include a fundraising component to help proved needed solar panels, food and medical aid. All are Welcome to join us.
Next week: the team working on our mural project has been hard at work and expects to welcome community members to join in the painting this coming week. Anyone who is interested should contact Linda. (spots are limited)
Sunday is international women's day and the lectionary text tells the story of Jesus meeting a woman at a well who understood deeply who he was and shared the good news. All are welcome as we dive into this story and reflect on the meaning of water, living water and baptism. We hope to see you in the garden!
In Faith,
Rev. Amanda
