Beginning this week and through the weekend our community will be filled with those celebrating Fleet Week. This is the 10th year of this annual event and each year there is an alternative called Peace Week. Each year The Garden Church welcomes all. Members of the Navy and others celebrating Fleet Week alongside those active in Peace Week. The thing we all share in common is that everyone desires peace. I have heard countless times from those serving in the military that peace is what they desire most. Many find this surprising the same way we are surprised to hear that police and sherif departments are in favor of common sense gun laws. We all want the same thing, peace and safety in our lives and our communities and our larger world.
This Sunday we have a lectionary reading that tells the story of a woman named Lydia who was baptized along with her whole household. Her response to hearing the Good News of our Lord was to join the movement through baptism. Join us Sunday as we spend time reflecting on faithful responses to the Gospel message and to our world around us.
In Faith,
Rev. Amanda
