If I had to summarize Swedenborgian teaching in one sentence, it would be, "Deep satisfaction in life comes when we discover our highest uses and enter into them." Or to unpack that a bit, each of us has unique gifts and talents to offer the world and we are at our happiest when we can develop them and put them into the service of God and neighbor. It follows that the heavenly community on earth is one that provides each of us the resources we need -- material, educational, emotional and spiritual -- to fully develop us into the creative, giving persons God created us to be. Do we live in such a society? Hardly. We only have to look at the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles County to see all the ways we are failing as a society to nurture the wellbeing of all our members. The wealth generated by our economy is a great blessing and an opportunity to provide everyone with the resources they need to become their most fulfilled and giving selves. Question is: as people of faith how do we advocate for an equitable distribution of wealth? Come join the discussion as we continue our "Jesus and..." series.
