Listening for God

Each Sunday during our worship services we ring our bell bowl and hold silence. We do this in an attempt to provide space in our busy lives for silence. The Bible teaches us that silence is where we can hear God's voice. For the last few years we've been holding silence for 3 minutes each week. During this time it's remarkable what worshipers notice during the time. From the peace of the garden, to the activity of birds, their own breath or the nudging of the Holy Spirit. When we take time to listen to for the Lord we can connect with the Divine on a deeper level.

This Sunday is the last Sunday for our Seminary Intern Thomas. Thomas has been a wonderful addition to our community this summer. He started off his time with us in late May with the Feed and be Fed Fundraiser, lead a Bible Study on Saturdays in June and July staffed Open Garden time, worked at the farm and preached and lead worship. Thank you all for being part of this mutual learning opportunity. Our time together on Sunday will include a celebration of Thomas' time with us.

This Sunday's scripture reading is from 1 Kings. It is the story of the prophet Elijah who listens for the Lord. We hope to see you in the Garden this weekend!

In Faith,

Rev. Amanda

What We mean when We say All Are Welcome:

At The Garden Church we intentionally welcome all. We do this without requiring adherence to any religious belief or creed. We foster a climate of purposeful inclusion, an environment where all can feel safe, valued, cared for, and given an opportunity to form meaningful connections with the Divine and each other. We cherish the diversity of humanity, a diversity which includes differences in sex, age, race, ethnicity, and national origin, range of abilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, financial means, education, and political perspective.

We are also a member Congregation of the Pacific Coast Association of the Swedenborgian Church of North America
