"Peace in Proximity"

The New Year has brought a flurry of activity to the garden from the return of POLA High classes to the welcome rain. This week's exciting activity is an event with our friends at Temple Beth El here in San Pedro. We co-hosting a celebration of the Jewish Holiday Tu Bishvat. On the Jewish calendar today is the New Year of the trees. Many communities plant trees on this day, and take time to raise their ecological awareness. We are excited to host this event again this year. It will take place at 7pm in the garden. You can expect reflections from both the Jewish tradition and the Christian tradition, some seed painting and some snacks of things which come from trees as we appreciate Gods magnificent creation and remember our role in care-taking this earth we've been given.

Another upcoming event we're excited to be a part of is San Pedro's 1st Annual Soup-er Bowl. This is an event aimed at relieving hunger in our community (all proceeds go to Meals on Wheels). It will take place on Saturday, February 10th at 11am in the garden and is being coordinated by our neighbors at Blend and be Friend who are providing soup along with The-Chori Man, and La Befana Bakery. And here's where it gets really cool--your soup will come in a handcrafted bowl donated by a local artist from either Blue Water Clay and Angel's Gate Cultural Center. Your ticket to the event gets you a beautiful handmade bowl filled with warm soup and the warm hear feeling of knowing you're helping keep hungry seniors fed. Tickets are available here

This Sunday we will continue our sermon series on Peace. Last week Rev. Dave talked about peace within. This Sunday we'll talk about peace in proximity, as in how do we cultivate peace in our immediate relationships. From our friend groups, to our families to our places of work, sometimes peace is not easy to come by.  Scripture has a lot to teach us about how to be in relationship with one another in a way that seeks peace. We hope you can join us tonight, Sunday and for all of our upcoming events.

In Faith,

 Rev. Amanda

What We mean when We say All Are Welcome:

At The Garden Church we intentionally welcome all. We do this without requiring adherence to any religious belief or creed. We foster a climate of purposeful inclusion, an environment where all can feel safe, valued, cared for, and given an opportunity to form meaningful connections with the Divine and each other. We cherish the diversity of humanity, a diversity which includes differences in sex, age, race, ethnicity, and national origin, range of abilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, financial means, education, and political perspective.
