Our block of 6th St. was unusually quiet on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Inside the garden was a different story. For the 3rd year in a row we played host to an energetic group of middle and high school students from Rolling Hills United Methodist Church and Temple Menorah in Redondo Beach. This lively group of students came to the garden as part of a multi-day service event. Their days of service each year fall on a week focused on gratitude and they show gratitude by giving back.
This Sunday The Garden Church and Feed and be Fed will take part in the Annual Holiday Parade. Our garden will be open during the parade for any who choose to come and enjoy the parade from our space. Afterwards we'll be open for our regular Sunday Rhythm (3pm Work Together; 4pm Worship Together; 5pm Eat Together). This Sunday marks the beginning of a New Year in the church Calendar with the season of Advent. Advent means beginning and is the church season that proceeds Christmas when we celebrate the birth of Jesus. The season of Advent is a season of waiting and preparation like preparing for the birth of any child. The difference is that Jesus was not just any child he is the Lord, God in human flesh who came to save us. Over these next 4 Sundays we will walk through the Biblical texts which mark the season including the story of Mary and some of the darker more apocalyptic stores as we prepare our hearts to welcome the Christ child.
We hope to see you in the garden.
In Faith,
Rev. Amanda
