When I was first teaching my children to apologize, I found myself in a conversation with a mom friend who was also teaching her children to apologize, and ask for forgiveness. Her hope was to teach that there is a reciprocity beyond "I'm sorry." Forgiveness is more than offering an apology in its fullness it requires something of the person who was wronged too. She taught her older son to apologize when he snatched a toy from his younger sister, and she taught her daughter to accept the apology and say "I forgive you."
This Sunday we are continuing our sermon series "We: Created for Community" with the topic of forgiveness. We often think of forgiveness as being between two individuals, but forgiveness is key to living in community and as communities we have influence over how forgiveness happens. Join us this Sunday as we look more closely at forgiveness.
