Both at the Garden and at the Farm our summer crops are slowing down. They are still putting out new shoots of life but more slowly now. As the summer slowly fades into fall we continue to gather the harvest. We do it more mindfully than we did a month ago when the abundance was overwhelming. Now as we gather we are slowly saying our good-byes with gratitude to the plants which have produced so much these last few months.
As we say our good-byes we are dreaming about what will grow next. We are thinking about the soil and what renewal it needs. What the next crop will add our deplete and how as we tend this land we can support the growth and production of the next foods which will come from this place.
This week our children, teachers, and school staff returned to classrooms. This was done with a lot of planning, care and hope. Hope that despite the Delta variant the safety measures will be sufficient and all will be kept safe. Hope that in person learning will begin to remedy some of the learning loss that took place during distance learning. And hope that we can once again live into a communal society that is able to be physically together once again.
At the Garden Church this Sunday we are spending time with the prophet Zephaniah who prophesies that God will remove judgements against us and gather God's people in, for restoration and hope.
Come as you are, stay as you are able.
