I don't remember when I was introduced to the concept that some people are "makers/" But the term has stuck with me. I think it was a friend of mine describing her kid. The child was always creating something. First drawings, then animated bird wings then carving wood, then sewing costumes in high school. It went on and will likely be part of their lives indefinitely. We're all makers in some way. Some of us make a life and career out of it. For others of us it's a part of what we do for recreation.
This summer we have focused on the idea that because God created, we too are creators as we were created in God's image. This summer we've done all manner of creative things from water color to clay, from song and dance to chanting. This Sunday we'll wrap up our summer sermon series with a focus on creating glass art. This can look a different depending on the type of glass creations one makes. Our sermon time art project this week will be glass tiles, They are created using frit to create fused glass art. The small tiles we create will be fired and turned into one piece, a group art project by everyone who comes on Sunday. We are working with artist April Adewole of Adewole Arts who is based at crafted here in San Pedro. Here's a video explaining the process. The instructions start at the one minute mark.
