Watching the Wild

On Wednesday we gathered in the garden for our annual Community Ash Wednesday Service. Joined by our friends at neighboring churches we read scripture, said prayers sung songs and smudged ashes on the foreheads of all present. From there we went to the streets of downtown San Pedro to offer this ancient ritual to all. Some take us up on it eagerly recognizing the ritual from their past. Others politely decline, and some look at us quizzically and we explain further this long-practiced thing we do each year, reminding our mortality and our finitude as a way of pointing to the expansive nature of God.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent and with it the 40 days or about 6 weeks which precede Easter. This year we have chosen the theme of Wilderness for the Lenten season. This Sunday the Bible passage is the story of Jesus' temptation in the wilderness. Join us for this special season in the Church year and invite this season into your life this calendar year.

All are welcome for our Sunday rhythm.
