In less than 2 weeks our Nation will hold its annual election. With mail-in and early voting not all the ballots will be cast on Nov. 5th, but that is the last day we will have to vote. Living in a democracy means we have a say in how our countries, states, counties and local municipalities are run. It also means we have choices to make. Which candidates will get our vote? Which measures and propositions will get our vote? We have a lot to decide. This year I showed the ballot to my children (ages 10 and 12), as I flipped through the pages they had a look of disbelief on their faces. "Where's the president part?" the older one asked. That is of course the part of the ballot they are aware of, they are not as aware of the ballot measures on school funding. We have a lot of decisions to make, a lot of trade offs to negotiate in our minds about the consequences of our votes.
This Sunday we're spending time with the story of Abraham's negotiating with God over the fate of the cites of Sodom and Gomorrah. It's a story of Abraham pleading for more compassion from God. It is a story that reminds us that even the almighty can be swayed. God cares about us and listens to us. As we move towards this upcoming election may we do so prayerfully.
We hope you can join us for our Sunday Rhythm.
In Faith,
Rev. Amanda
