Springtime in the garden is filled with life. Not just the people, but also the hummingbirds, lizards, bees, and especially the butterflies. The Garden Church is an urban sanctuary in so many ways that transcend the human experience. The birds and various creatures, including the bugs, all celebrate God’s creation in their various ways. This Sunday I am highlighting the good news happening in the world that includes conservation efforts that are working. The Monarch butterfly is a regal creature and one that I have loved since a child. I also have a story to tell about a moment of awe involving the monarch butterflies that was so profound it took my breath away. Through drought and deforestation and neonic pesticides, the butterfly population has gone through some challenging decades recently. A recent study from March of this year, shows that the monarch butterfly population increased by 64%! Conservation efforts and resiliency are creating results. You never know the long term consequences that a small act of kindness can have over the course of time. This is the positive side of what is also called, ‘The Butterfly Effect’.
